Zarl’s Famous Apple Fritter Bread

This recipe is adapted from an online recipe for Amish Apple Fritter Bread published by Jill Mills. We reduced the sugar, replaced the butter, substituted half whole wheat flour, and added lemon zest.

Ingredients

Batter

  • 3/4 c all-purpose flour
  • 3/4 c whole wheat flour
  • 2 t baking powder
  • 1 t salt
  • 6 T oil
  • 1/3 sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 t vanilla
  • 1/2 c milk

Topping

  • 3 T brown sugar
  • 1 t cinnamon
  • 1/4 c oats

Filling

  • 2 apples, peeled, cored, and diced
  • 1 t cinnamon
  • 1 T sugar
  • 1 t lemon zest

Instructions

  1. Layer Batter, Filling, Batter, Filling, Topping
  2. 350°F for 1 hour
